IoT-optimized wireless module device not repurposed for IoT
While many systems, device, components, and subsystems suppliers have found their legacy products designed for the mobile market also fit well into the nascent IoT market, fabless Swiss semiconductor and module company u-blox designed their LARA-R3131 module specifically for IoT and M2M devices. The single-mode LTE Category 1 modem and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Sytems) positioning engine that make up the device were all developed in-house at u-blox. Because the receiver, modem, and module are designed in-house, and as one module the company maintains that they can focus on specific customer support issues for the entire device directly. On the integration side, the module features a fully embedded IP stack, APIs consistent with other products in the u-blox portfolio, and support for common operating systems.
