AT&T has inked an agreement with NBCUniversal that will give DirecTV and U-verse customers access multi-screen “mix” channels that allows watching multiple networks at once, as well as interactive services with event results and medal counts. DirecTV customers with compatible 4K Ultra HD equipment and the company’s Ultimate package or higher will have access to select Olympic events in 4K.
DirecTV subs will be able to tune in an eight-screens-in-one mix channel with networks including NBC, NBCSN, Golf Channel, Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, USA Network and NBC Universo. U-verse customers can view a four-screens-in-one mix on a multiview channel that offers NBCSN, Bravo, USA Network and the local NBC affiliate.
The DirecTV 4K UHD coverage will include footage from the Opening and Closing Ceremonies (on a two-and-a-half hour delay), along with swimming, track and field, basketball and judo, all on a one-day delay, as well as scenes from around the city of Rio.
Other recent Olympics deals signed by operators with NBCU include Altice and Cox. More information about NBC’s 4K UHD plans for the Games, which start Aug. 5, is here.
