Alcatel-Lucent is commercializing single carrier 100G transmission on a single wavelength.
The company’s Next-Generation Coherent technology enables 100G rates on each wavelength, which the company calculated translates into more than 100,000 MP3 files in 60 seconds or more than 15,000 HDTV channels concurrently streamed live.
Single carrier coherent technology offers the potential for significantly higher integration and longer transmission reach with significantly lower network complexity, operational costs and power consumption, A-L said.
A-L’s technology is also compatible with 10G and 40G technologies, the company said.
The capability is now available on the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS). It is also being deployed on all of Alcatel-Lucent’s dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platforms.
This 100G next-generation coherent offering is a key element of Alcatel-Lucent’s High Leverage Network (HLN) architecture.
