ADC (https://www.adc.com) announced a deal where it will market, sell and support the Appian Communications (https://www.appian.com) Optical Services Activation Platform (OSAP), AppianVista and the Services Termination Unit (STU) products.
With the addition of these products to ADC’s portfolio, which includes an IP access switch, a CMTS and a provisioning manager, ADC now offers a product set that will allow cable operators to deliver carrier-quality voice and Ethernet services to a broad base of commercial customers.
“Cable MSOs have actively deployed miles of fiber that passes thousands of small and medium businesses,” said Lindsay Schroth, analyst with Yankee Group’s Broadband Access service. “MSOs are beginning to realize that commercial services can be a significant opportunity to turn this infrastructure into new revenue.”
“We are very pleased to forge this agreement with Appian, which offers a proven, carrier-class Ethernet and TDM services solution for small and medium businesses,” added Hilton Nicholson, president of ADC’s IP Cable Business Unit. “Appian’s solutions are a natural fit with our expanding initiative to deliver high-speed, business-class voice and data services for commercial customers.”
The Appian/ADC solution provides for an integrated service platform to provide commercial services over fiber and coax. ADC’s Cuda platform services the customers over coax, while Appian’s STU services the customers over fiber. The OSAP, designed to reduce the cost and complexity in grooming of voice and data services to an existing Sonet/SDH or IP services backbone, offers a simplified Layer 2 aggregation architecture.
