Adelphia Communications Corp. struck a five-year deal with TVN Entertainment Corp. making TVN primary content transport provider and VOD content provider for Adelphia’s systems.
As part of the deal, Adelphia will invest an undisclosed amount of equity in TVN.
An Adelphia representative would not comment beyond content of a written statement from TVN, and referred all phone calls to financial representatives, who did not return CEDaily‘s phone calls.
“TVN is not releasing figures on the equity investment,” TVN spokeswoman Molly Mulloy says.
TVN says it will use the Digital Content Express services to package and deliver content from major studios and premium television networks for on-demand deployment. Content is delivered via satellite and fiber to remote on-demand servers.
Content is encoded at TVN’s digital network operations center and preprocessed for secure transport via a secure satellite transmission system, it says. TVN’s Affiliate Remote Interface lets Adelphia see assets anywhere on the system, change its offerings on a system-by-system basis and gather usage data via a Web interface.
Mulloy says the two will roll out commercial service in the fourth quarter, first in Cleveland, Ohio, “followed by other markets.” The two also expect to launch in West Los Angeles later this year, she adds.
