Aerie Networks, a Denver-based company that is building a broadband technology and business platform designed to host an indefinite number of new networks, has inked a deal with Ericsson. Ericsson, which manufactures fiber optic cable and optical fiber ribbon technologies for long-haul networks, will provide fiber optic cable with the bandwidth capacity to accomplish Aerie’s plans.
“Aerie Networks’ high capacity broadband network is one of the more interesting projects in this business,” said Janne Sjödén, president of Ericsson Network Technologies. “We are providing a customized 432 fiber count cable as well as network materials to Aerie. We believe that our experience and competence (with) mass fiber infrastructure will speed up roll out and increase cost efficiency for Aerie.”
The deal is valued at approximately $300 million over three years
“This partnership represents a significant commitment by both companies to the successful implementation of the largest inter-city, broadband network ever envisioned in the U.S.,” said Mort Aaronson, Aerie president and COO, in a statement.
