SBC Communications has picked Alcatel as the primary vendor for “Project Lightspeed,” an initiative that aims to deliver IP-based video, data and voice services to 18 million homes by year-end 2007.
The deal is expected to net $1.7 billion for Alcatel over the next five years. Under it, Alcatel will serve as SBC’s primary supplier of network access equipment and fiber, IP routing and Ethernet switching gear and network systems integration services. More specifically, Alcatel will supply its remote 7330 IP DSLAM system, and 7340 fiber-to-the-premise platform.
