BMW hopes to go all electric within the next ten years, due to European Union carbon emission laws which are expected to become more stringent. The change means that almost all BMW models will feature electric drivetrains, which would consist of range-extending engines and plug-in hybrids. Reports have also indicated that future BMW models will be more aerodynamic and lighter.
In other automotive news, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn told a German magazine “An electric VW that can drive 185 miles on electricity alone is in sight.” Also, Hyundai announced that it will replace General Motors as the official automotive sponsor of the National Football League after the two sides reached a four-year deal. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
