Clearwire Communications rolled out its Clear mobile WiMAX service in Salem, Ore., about 40 miles south of its first commercial market in Portland, and in Milledgeville, Ga., about 60 miles outside of Atlanta, where it has also already established service.
Like Portland and Atlanta, Salem and Milledgeville are communities largely served by Clearwire investor Comcast. Comcast is private-labeling the service in Portland and Atlanta.
Clear provides average mobile download speeds of 3 to 6 Mbps, with bursts over 10 Mbps. Home Internet service plans start at $25 per month, while mobile Internet plans start at $35 per month, or customers can purchase a day pass for $10.
Clearwire’s build-out plan for the next two years includes Atlanta and Milledgeville, Ga.; Baltimore; Boise, Idaho; Chicago; Las Vegas; Philadelphia; Charlotte, Raleigh and Greensboro in N.C.; Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii; Seattle and Bellingham, Wash.; Portland, Ore.; and Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Killeen/Temple, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Waco and Wichita Falls, all in Texas.
