GPON specialist Alloptic has partnered with Coaxsys Inc. as part of a plan to pipe IP-based services in the customer’s home via existing coaxial cables.
The partnership will solve the so-called “last foot” issue of IP-based services, as most homes are not wired with Ethernet cables.
Although Alloptic’s platform delivers fiber-to-the-home services, “there is still the challenge of distributing the high-speed IP services around the home without having to rewire each home with Cat-5 cable,” said Alloptic Director of Product Marketing Mike Serrano, in a statement.
The combo teams Alloptic’s fiber-fed PON architecture with the Coaxsys TVnet platform, which receives the Ethernet signal and distributes it temporarily over the home’s coax network before converting it to a signal usable by the end device.
