Alloptic Inc. has been awarded a patent for transporting legacy time-division multiplexing (TDM) over Ethernet-based passive optical networks (EPON).
The patent (No. 6,470,032) describes a “System and Method for Synchronizing Telecom-Related Clocks in Ethernet-based Passive Optical Networks.” The method, the company said, enables service providers to link Ethernet-based optical access systems to their exigent core telephony networks.
Central Texas Technologies L.P. has deployed Alloptic’s gear to support TDM-based voice services over a fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) system.
