Altice USA has launched the Altice Gigabit fiber symmetrical internet service over its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network that is available to residential customers in select areas of Long Island.
The Gigabit fiber service will be delivered across Altice USA’s FTTH network that has been built and designed with Altice Labs’ optical fiber technology. This will allow services to be integrated into homes via the company’s fiber Gateway, an all-in-one integrated gig-optics router and smart WiFi device offered by an MSO in the US.
“Delivering our symmetrical Altice Gigabit fiber service is just the start as we continue to scale our fiber network to bring our customers up to 10 gigabit internet speeds to support the explosive growth of data usage while laying the groundwork for the future of the connected universe,” Hakim Boubazine, Altice USA’s Co-President and Chief Operating Officer said.
The fiber service provides support to data-intensive activities such as streaming 4K ultra-high-definition (UHD) and high-definition (HD) video on multiple devices, playing multi-player gaming in a new way, video chatting, streaming music, downloading large files on numerous devices at once, and experiencing high-quality virtual and augmented-reality entertainment.
Additionally, Gateway’s smart WiFi optimizes traffic on the home WiFi network to enable simultaneous dual-band WiFi that automatically switches frequencies based on bandwidth and range needs of the device in use. It also offers WiFi extenders to create a mesh network and an app to manage the WiFi experience at home.
The Altice gigabit fiber service will be available to additional areas of Long Island and throughout Altice’s New York region. Altice will also be delivering broadband speeds of up to 400 Mbps for residential customers and has plans to launch a gigabit service with smart WiFi capabilities over HFC in 2019.
