Arris announced today that it has collaborated with The Weather Channel to bring “Local Now” to Sling TV across all devices. Local Now is an over-the-top (OTT) streaming service that gives subscribers personalized weather, news, traffic and sports information based on their location.
Arris Global Services is providing end-to-end management of the service — from design to integration, test validation, deployment, customized HTML software development and managed services. The service is the first to implement the ActiveVideo CloudTV platform’s CPE virtualization technology within the Arris portfolio. It also integrates Anevia‘s ViaMotion+ packaging software and Arris transcoders.
Local Now delivers local content for all Sling TV “Best of Live TV” customers at no additional cost and is available in 207 markets throughout the United States. It provides localized content cycles on a short loop that are updated in real time.
“This exciting application draws on many different platforms and resources to provide the localized OTT experiences that our subscribers are looking for,” John Menzies, VP of local systems development at The Weather Channel, says.
The project highlights how Arris is engaging with service providers to up their offerings to customers, Dan Whalen, Arris SVP and GM, Global Services, says. “Local Now unites high-quality content and personalization in a way that makes OTT more relevant and engaging to subscribers,” he adds.
