Arris teamed up with Wurl to debut a new open platform for cable operators that blends over-the-top (OTT) content with traditional programming services on Arris’ set-top boxes.
Arris Market, which is part of Arris’ Whole Home Solution, is standards-based and comes with an HTML5 interface that integrates OTT content with linear content. Arris said the new platform gives cable operators flexibility in branding the look and feel of the environment with the ability to customize the organization of the content.
“We view the launch of the Arris Market as a cornerstone in developing and deploying tomorrow’s interactive video services,” said Debbie Stackis, senior vice president and general manager, consumer solutions at Arris. “We continue to advance our roadmap and focus on the principles of quality, flexibility, and efficiency to foster our leadership position in content delivery.”
Using Wurl’s APIs and hosted apps, pay TV operators can provide their subscribers with unified linear plus OTT programming services delivered through traditional set-top boxes and other connected devices.
“The Wurl platform enables cable operators using the Arris Whole Home Solution to give their subscribers access to a broad selection of popular streaming services without the complex setup of additional third-party devices or ‘smart TV’ technology,” said Sean Doherty, CEO of Wurl, Inc. “This new capacity to select and discover both traditional and OTT content from one remote control has exciting implications for the future of set-top functionality.”
Arris Market will be demonstrated at the upcoming NCTC Independent Show in Kansas in Arris booths 309 and 311.
