Austrian service provider Liwest Kabelmedien has deployed Arris’ flagship E6000 Converged Edge Router and TG682 cable modem/gateway in order to deliver a 250 Mbps service to its subscribers.
By deploying Arris’ E6000, which is based on the cable industry’s converged cable access platform (CCAP), Liwest said it was future-proofing its investment en route to offering a 1 Gbps service down the road.

The E6000 is currently being used by some cable operators as a high density cable modem termination system (CMTS) before migrating CCAP. Other E600 customers include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, WOW, Liberty Global and GCI.
According to a report Infonetics Research, the most recent first quarter was another record setter for CCAP revenue, which jumped 177 percent sequentially while CMTS revenue dropped 76 percent.
The shift to CCAP was most notable in the North American market, where quarterly revenue dropped 13 percent despite CMTS and CCAP channel shipments jumping 20 percent. In North America, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Comcast have been active with CCAP trials and limited deployments.
In the Infonetics report, Arris took over the lead for worldwide CCAP and CMTS revenue in the first quarter while Cisco was second. Casa Systems had a strong showing in the quarter by increasing its revenue by 13 percent thanks to customer wins here and abroad.
Liwest offers up to 300 TV and radio channels in analog, digital and HDTV standard in Upper Austria. In addition to broadband, the company also has a fixed-line telephony service.
