Arris’ switched digital video platform has made its first landing in South Korea with independent cable operator Areum Broadcasting Network (ABN).

ABM will use the reclaimed bandwidth from SDV to offer more HD, as well as improve the clarity of its HD channels, and more VOD programming.

The SDV solution that ABM is deploying includes Arris’ software-based video control plane CVEx platform, which provides convergence between RF and IP video transport.
The solution also includes a suite of management, reporting and optimization software to enable smooth deployment.

Arris said its SDV technology was tailored for the local Korean ecosystem and integrated with the local electronic program guide, middleware and set-top box vendors to provide a standard platform for all Korean cable operators.

The deployment at ABN also employs the Arris BEQ SDV QAM platform, which Arris picked up in its acquisition of SDV pioneer BigBand Networks. With the BigBand SDV deployments, Arris has more than 39 million homes passed for its SDV offering.

ABN’s broadcast TV infrastructure will also leverage the Arris SDV solution to drive more efficient utilization of the RF spectrum. The Arris SDV server’s highly interoperable software optimizes bandwidth utilization, while ensuring that subscribers’ experience during channel changes is unaffected.
