Arris to expand CPE line with modems, EMTAs, gateways

Arris announced a set of new products in advance of next week’s Cable Show, including the expansion of its customer premises equipment (CPE) line and an optical transmitter.

Arris is expanding its Touchstone family of DOCSIS 3.0 embedded multimedia terminal adapters (EMTAs), gateways and cable modems. The first four new models to become available will be:

• TM802 EMTA, with 8×4 channel bonding and battery backup
• TM902 EMTA, with 8×4 channel bonding, without battery backup
• TG852 wireless gateway, with 8×4 channel bonding, 802.11n wireless capability, battery backup and four-port GigE routing
• CM900 data modem, with 8×4 channel bonding 

Arris vice president of product line management Hans Plug said, “With these higher downstream bonding rates, cable operators can deliver the highest-quality data and voice experience today and be assured of their ability to accommodate sufficient bandwidth to support the converged IP video services of tomorrow.”

Subsequent models will have similar options for 802.11n wireless functionality, will be available with or without battery backup, and will possess Touchstone’s advanced diagnostics and reporting capabilities, as well as a variety of other features and configurations designed to meet the evolving needs of cable operators around the world, Arris said.

Separately, the company announced its CorWave dual-density forward transmitter (CorWave DW), which the company said was designed for operators with facility constraints that are planning to add new services.

The CorWave DW features two transmitters in the space formerly occupied by a single transmitter. The DW transmitter also utilizes CorWave multi-wavelength technology to increase fiber capacity without increasing fiber infrastructure, allowing rapid deployment of new revenue-generating services even in fiber-scarce plant.
