AT&T is providing the transport plumbing in order to help The Switch deliver live and on-demand HD programming across AT&T’s 22-state footprint.
The Switch, which is owned and operated by Beers Enterprises, provides video images and sound to the broadcast industry, including television networks, local broadcast stations, and producers and distributors of television programming.
Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, AT&T will provide HD video transport service (HDVT) across more than 130 metropolitan areas. The Switch will use the HDVT circuits to transmit HD and SD content from its video switching locations in Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C., Miami, London and Toronto.
The first use of AT&T HDVT circuits by The Switch was for the live transmission of the Michael Jackson memorial service on July 7 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
