Atlantic Broadband first MSO to deploy TiVo’s Roamio

October 30, 2013 By Mike Robuck

This morning Atlantic Broadband laid claim to being the first cable operator to offer TiVo’s Roamio DVR platform.

The six-tuner Roamio boxes, which will be leased by Altantic subscribers, launched today in Cumberland, M.D. with additional deployments slated this year in Miami and Aiken S.C. Atlantic Broadband, which was purchased by Cogeco last year, said additional markets will be added at the beginning of next year.

The service supports live, recorded and on demand video content across various screens. In addition to being able to record six shows at the same time, the T6 enables trick play on every TV in a home.

The platform also features a new “what to watch now” recommendation menu and the ability to stream to live TV to the devices in a subscriber’s home. If the content rights exist, video content can also be downloaded and watched outside of a home as well. The T6 platform also enables the viewing of web videos and apps such as Pandora, YouTube, Picasa, and AOL ON on TVs.

“Consumers today are inundated with digital entertainment choices on many different screens and they remain confused and frustrated about where, what and how to best enjoy all their options. For our customers, the new TiVo service from Atlantic Broadband will fundamentally transform and simplify their TV viewing experience and permanently solve the ‘nothing on TV’ challenge,” said David Isenberg, Atlantic Broadband’s chief marketing and strategy officer. “Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to continuous innovation by delivering exactly what customers want, where and when they want it, all at a great value. The new TiVo service from Atlantic Broadband is a real game-changer for cable, and we’re excited to be the first to offer our customers the ultimate television experience.”

Atlantic is offering the TiVo service as part of its new double and triple play bundles at no extra charge. Atlantic’s bundle prices start at $99 a month. Existing Atlantic broadband DVR customers can upgrade to the new TiVo Service for  $10 more per month.

Atlantic Broadband is the 13th largest cable operator in the United States, It provides triple play services to more than 230,000 residential and business customers located in four operating regions: Western Pennsylvania, Miami Beach, Maryland/Delaware, and Aiken, S.C. Atlantic Broadband is headquartered in Quincy, Massachusetts.
