AT&T is now offering a 1 gigabit service in parts of Wilmington, N.C., to some homes, small businesses, apartments, and condo properties. The company is currently offering the 1 Gbps option to 4.6 million locations in 53 metros, and has plans to reach at least 75 metros. It further reports it’s aiming to add 2 million individual locations in 2017, and at least 12.5 million locations by mid-2019. Other recent AT&T gigabit expansion news is here.
“High-speed internet has quickly become a preferred way to access information and communicate,” Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo comments. “I am glad to see this investment from AT&T, and am certain that the increased ability to tout Wilmington’s connectivity to fiber internet further strengthens the reputation of our community.”
AT&T says it has invested nearly $1.8 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in North Carolina between 2014 through 2016. The gigabit service goes for $80/month standalone, or $70/month bundled with another AT&T service on a single bill.
