AT&T announced Wednesday it has signed a deal to bring its high-speed GigaPower Internet service to Novare Group’s SkyHouse luxury apartment units.
According to AT&T, the deal currently covers more than 2,500 SkyHouse apartments across eight properties in the Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Charlotte, Orlando and Raleigh-Durham metro areas.
AT&T said it is also planning to provide GigaPower service in an additional 1,800 units at five properties in Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte, Houston and Nashville. Residents in all the units will have access to AT&T’s U-verse TV service as well, AT&T said.
The SkyHouse deal is part of a push from AT&T to expand the availability of its GigaPower service through partnerships with property owners and management groups.
“We want to bring ultra-fast Internet speeds and access to content in real-time to more of our customers,” said Peter Feeney, AT&T vice president of MDU and Connected Community Sales. “This will make properties more attractive – Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second let residents quickly connect to the cloud, telecommute more easily, video chat in real-time and stream the latest entertainment.”
AT&T said it is looking for more property owners and managers who are interested in adding GigaPower to their facilities.
The process of bringing the service to a new location includes three steps: nomination of the property for consideration, design of a fiber overbuild of the existing telecom network, and installation of the new network following approval from the property’s stakeholders.
Following up on the 1 million location milestone it hit in 2015, AT&T said it is aiming to double availability of GigaPower by the end of this year.
