AT&T this week unveiled a WiFi mesh system capable of extending in-home network coverage by up to 1,000 square feet.
Company officials said the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi Extender, made by AirTies, would provide a strong, seamless WiFi signal throughout the home while reducing network congestion and automatically selecting the best connection for each device.
AT&T customers, meanwhile, will pay “a fraction” of the cost of similar systems from third-party companies, the company wrote. AT&T’s website lists a starting price of nearly $35.
The telecom giant also touted an AT&T Smart Home Manager app — a “WiFi concierge” that allows users to easily set up and monitor their networks.
“We built our WiFi technology to give you the best possible home internet experience, no matter how many new smart devices you get,” Stephen Vincent of the company’s broadband products segment wrote in a blog post.
