AT&T announced this morning the first-ever live 4K ultra high definition (UHD) broadcast in the United States on DirecTV with next month’s Masters Tournament. It marks the inaugural live event on the new DirecTV 4K channel.
DirecTV customers with compatible 4K UHD equipment can watch golf’s granddaddy-of-them-all event with roughly four times the resolution of HDTV. “The detail is so rich that you might even see the spin of the ball and the divots in the turf as if you’re right there on the green,” AT&T boasts in a press release.
“Once you see it in 4K on DirecTV, it’s going to be tough to see it any other way – unless you’re there in person,” Dan York, chief content officer, AT&T Entertainment Group, says.
The 4K UHD coverage will feature all four rounds of tournament play at Amen Corner, which as any self-respecting golf fan knows is the hallowed three-hole section of the back nine (11th, 12th and 13th) at Augusta National.
Customers who want see the 4K UHD event will need a DirecTV Ultimate or Premier subscription with an authorized 4K customer account and the latest Genie HD DVR (HR54). They’ll also need either a DirecTV 4K Ready TV or a compatible 4K TV connected to the latest 4K Genie Mini. More details are available here.
