Apartments are a sweet spot for operators rolling out Gigabit Internet services — especially for new-builds and buildings that are on the luxury scale of things. Just to name a couple of examples in the last several months are Cox’s deployment of 1 Gbps to luxury apartments in Wichita, Kan., and AT&T’s deal with SkyHouse for eight properties in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Charlotte, Orlando and Raleigh-Durham metro areas.
AT&T reports having more than 425,000 apartments and condos across the U.S. that can access internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second and AT&T TV service over its AT&T GigaPower network. The company also announced that consumers can find apartments and condos that have access to GigaPower via an interactive map, where they can search by zip code or zoom in the map from a national to a local view.
As AT&T has reported in the past, it continues to seek out more property owners and managers interested in adding GigaPower to their facilities. The process involves nomination of the property for consideration (which can be done online at AT&T’s site), design of a fiber overbuild of the existing network and installation following approval from the property’s stakeholders.
