AT&T is continuing its GigaPower roll, announcing today that it has expanded the service that offers speeds up to 1 Gbps to more homes, apartments and small businesses in five major metropolitan areas.
Expanded markets include:
Chicago: Hampshire, Munster and St. John
Dallas: Richardson
Houston: Friendswood, Pearland, Manvel and Missouri City
Miami: Coral Springs, North Miami and Tamarac
San Antonio: Converse
Original metro launch dates were in 2014 for Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. Chicago, Miami and San Antonio were in 2015.
Local pols seemed happy to lend AT&T some kudos and quotes.
“High-speed Internet connections improve the quality of life,” Illinois State Sen. Karen McConnaughay says. “Whether it’s our work, education, health care, public safety or even entertainment. This announcement is great news for Hampshire.”
In Texas, Converse Mayor Al Suarez also said that the GigaPower rollout was great news for his community. “High-speed Internet access opens new doors, improving access to education and help grow the local economy by creating jobs,” he notes.
Texas State Senator Larry Taylor offered up props for the Pearland, Friendswood, Manvel and Missouri City rollout. “New high-speed internet improves access to online education options, and helps the local economy by bringing new business and jobs into the community,” Taylor says.
AT&T released a slew of news around GigaPower last month, including a deal it inked with a luxury apartment group and an expansion in Nashville.
