Aurora Networks is reaching beyond its optical transport roots with today’s announcement that it has bought GoBackTV for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition marks the first time in Aurora Networks’ 11-year history that it has bought another company. In October of last year, Aurora Networks brought in Scott Weinstein as its vice president of new business development in order to help formulate business expansion plans.
GoBackTV, headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif., has approximately 20 current employees that will be integrated into Aurora Networks’ Santa Clara, Calif., campus. Aurora Networks expects the companies to be fully integrated within two months.
Aurora has gained traction with cable operators with its node platforms, but it will now add GoBackTV’s edge QAMs and cable modem termination system equipment into its product lineup, as well as an IPTV offering.
“GoBackTV fills expertise in evolving areas that represent timely opportunities for Aurora Networks to expand its technology in line with the needs of cable operators,” said Guy Sucharczuk, chairman, president and CEO of Aurora Networks. “We are using this acquisition to increase our technology base, enabling us to expand the breadth of our product lines, thus maintaining our lead as the cable operator’s main partner to build future-proof networks.”
GoBackTV purchased Com21’s assets when the latter went bankrupt in 2003.
