Aurora Networks plans to debut a 5-42 MHz return path solution that is almost instantly upgradeable to 5-85 MHz next week at Cable-Tec Expo.
The company claims its Universal Digital Return Technology coupled coupled with its 102-1002 MHz downstream-capable nodes is the only solution on the market that can be purchased and seamlessly upgraded from 5-42 MHz to 5-85 MHz in the return path.
The cable industry is generally agreed that its common roadmap includes carving out more upstream bandwidth, in order to handle increasing upstream data traffic and services such as video conferencing that rely on near-symmetrical bandwidth availability.
Different MSOs will find themselves requiring the additional upstream bandwidth at different times, however, based on competitive circumstances.
Aurora’s solution is to offer a system that will function the current 5-42 MHz allocation, but then can be upgraded to 5-85 MHz at the network operator’s convenience.
Aurora Networks NC4000 and NC2000 nodes already support a 5–85 MHz return path. Now, with the company’s DT4250N, an operator can purchase 5-42 MHz technology today and then upgrade an entire node to 5-85 MHz when convenient or necessary, with the return path transmitter requiring only the push of a button.
