Aurora to power Comcast’s services in Broadband Nation

March 23, 2009 By Traci Patterson

At The Cable Show 2009, Aurora Networks’ Radio Frequency over Glass (RFoG) fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) solution will be deployed to power Comcast’s cable services in “Broadband Nation.” More specifically, Aurora’s solution will power the “suburban home” part of the exhibit.

Details about Broadband Nation – the 20,000-square-foot centerpiece exhibit for The Cable Show – were announced last week (story here). The Cable Show is set for April 1-3 in Washington, D.C.

Aurora will also be an exhibitor in the CableNet technology showcase, co-sponsored by CableLabs and the NCTA. Aurora will be demonstrating the following technologies:

  • Next-generation RFoG, RFPON – This solution combines RFoG and passive optical network (PON) technologies to create an efficient and cost-effective solution for cable MSOs. RFPON solutions work in new build situations, multiple-dwelling units (MDUs) and in rural, low-density areas, giving operators a better way to offer next-generation subscriber services to remote customers.
  • LcWDM (‘O’-band) analog transmitter solution – LcWDM enables multiple wavelengths on the same fiber for node segmentation to cost-effectively expand the bandwidth per subscriber with no additional construction costs. In addition, it leaves the DWDM 1550 nm ‘C’-band available for other services or longer reach segmentation.
  • Future-proof Fiber Deep tools – A Fiber Deep architecture, along with next-generation access modules, enables MSOs to drive more services from their installed plant.
