TiVo announced that starting next Monday, its TiVo Roamio OTA will feature a 1 TB hard drive, and won’t require an ongoing monthly subscription fee. The TiVo Roamio OTA 1TB offers DVR and what the company’s Chief Marketing and Retail Sales Officer Ira Bahr calls “an intuitive integration between free over-the-air HD channels and major streaming services.”
The unit comes standard with SkipMode, which offers users the ability to skip commercial breaks and QuickMode, which reportedly allows them to watch their recordings 30 percent faster with pitch-corrected audio.
The TiVo Roamio OTA 1TB can access and record up to 150 hours of HD and up to four shows at once, from local networks including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS and Univision (where available with an HD antenna). The box also gives users access to content from OTT services including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Instant Video and YouTube. It’s going for under $400, and will be available May 2 at TiVo.com, BestBuy.com and Amazon.com, and some Best Buy stores.
TiVo also recently announced it reached 7 million subscriptions for TiVo-enabled platforms deployed by operators in both North America and Europe, including Virgin Media, Vodafone Spain, RCN, Cogeco and Suddenlink.
