Working in conjunction with Arris, BendBroadband has launched a free iPad app that allows its subscribers to browse channel listings while watching live TV and to control their DVR settings and recordings on the go.
Early last year, BendBroadband was the first cable operator in North America to deploy Arris’ whole-home networking gateway, which it calls Alpha. Since then, WOW, Shaw Communications and Buckeye CableSystem have deployed the Arris Whole Home Solution.
At The Cable Show earlier this year, Arris showed a mobile application for the iPad that utilizes the new Moxi SDK and Moxi Web Services API to enable new ways for consumers to interact with the Arris Whole Home Solution, including the ability to remotely access and schedule recordings.
The Alpha app is available through iTunes. Out of the home, it allows subscribers to view their channel listings and manage their DVR recordings, which is a functionality that other cable operators, such as Comcast, have also enabled. Within the home, the Alpha iPad app serves as a remote control, and users can view guide listings up to 14 days in advance.
Other features include:
- Browse recorded TV shows
- Manage recordings
- Delete and reprioritize recordings for favorite shows
- Navigate the TV menu using gestures or the remote control app
- Start watching a show on a media player at the flick of a finger.
