The nation’s largest MSO is re-organizing its corporate offices to streamline functions within “the silos” of video, voice, and data. Comcast Corp. CEO Brian Roberts confirmed the re-org at a Citibank investor’s conference in Phoenix on Monday.
Here’s how the tech-facing aspects of the maneuvers shake out:
* John Schanz, a former AOL executive, reports to work next Monday (1/16) as EVP/National Engineering and Tech Ops. He reports to Comcast COO Steve Burke.
* Dave Fellows, chief technical officer, sheds tech ops to Schanz, in order to focus on a “more classic CTO” role, according to a Philadelphia-based Comcast executive familiar with the situation.
* Steve Silva shifts away from Comcast’s various joint ventures and development activities to lead set-top box efforts and the Comcast Media Center, based in Littleton, Colo. (formerly known as HITS, or Headend in the Sky).
* Mark Coblitz remains the chief of all things policy and two-way Plug & Play.
At the top, Comcast promoted David Juliano to EVP/marketing and development, from president of Comcast’s online group. That means he picks up video, including GuideWorks (the Comcast-Gemstar-TV Guide joint venture) and the video-centric JVs, such as OCAP Development LLC and Double-C Technologies. He continues to report to EVP/operations Dave Watson.
Also promoted: Greg Butz, to senior VP/product development. Butz’s new job means he’s not solely focused on online, but instead will focus on cross-platform services.
