Comcast Business was named the network services provider for Refraction, a coworking incubator community in Reston, Va. In addition to cloud-based voice and TV, Refraction members have access to a 1 Gbps Ethernet Dedicated Internet line capable of scaling to 10 Gbps of capacity.
A significant portion of the Refraction community is made up of venture-backed software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies for which a connection to internal and external-facing apps and programs is essential, Comcast Business reports. Beyond supporting traditional business activities by enabling access to online financial and educational tools, Comcast Business services are used for more uncommon tasks, including 3D printing or the use of WiFi to fly drones around the campus grounds.
“Even today’s largest enterprises came on the scene as startups, which is why it’s so important to us to establish relationships with organizations like Refraction that support entrepreneurs in dreaming big and achieving their goals,” Byron Cantrall, regional VP for Comcast Business, observes. “We are committed to small businesses and proactively invest in our network so they have access to the tools and technologies that can bring their businesses to the next level.”
Rae Stott, director of Refraction, points out that Reston has a long history in technology, with some of the original Internet companies still residing only a few miles away. “Advanced technology services are vital to ensuring that our startups and entrepreneurs are able to run lean and agile businesses. Our local Comcast Business team is an integral part of our community and has ensured that we are well-equipped to accommodate technology demands that may arise,” Stott says.
