Starting today, Blockbuster’s on-demand service is up and running on TiVo’s DVRs.
Blockbuster On Demand’s digital movie rental service is available to broadband-connected customers who own TiVo Series2, TiVo Series3, TiVo HD and TiVo HD XL DVRs.
The partnership was first announced in March, and the movie rentals will range in price from $2.99 for classic movies to $3.99 for new releases.
Over the coming weeks, Blockbuster will add more movies to its roster, including some in HD, while TiVo’s DVRs will be sold at Blockbuster’s brick and mortar locations.
To access the service, TiVo subscribers click into the “Video on Demand” screen from TiVo Central, where they will see the Blockbuster logo. From there, subscribers can view the content that is available to rent.
Blockbuster is trying to catch up with Netflix and Amazon.com, both of which already have services in place with TiVo.
While TiVo’s on-demand deals with Blockbuster, Netflix and Amazon compete with cable operators’ VOD offerings, it has deals in place with Comcast and Cox Communications.
