NBC Universal’s Bravo has forged a partnership with Foursquare to bring a mobile social gaming platform to viewers’ cell phones.
Starting today, Bravo viewers will able to earn “badges” and special prizes when they “check in” to more than 500 locations on Foursquare, according to The New York Times. Users collect the badges in order to become major of a location and can also win free prizes at participating Foursquare bars and restaurants.
Foursquare’s traditional model is to have users check in to restaurants and local businesses on their phones in order to share tips with other players, such as the best drink at a bar. Bravo will pick its locations based on its shows that include “Top Chef” and “The Real Housewives.”
Bravo is one of the cable networks that Comcast is currently working on acquiring through its proposed joint venture with General Electric that would give the cable operator control of NBCU.
