AirTies Wireless Networks unveiled Remote View, version 1.0, a new in-home WiFi performance monitoring system for operators. It will be on display next week in Boston at INTX.
Using AirTies’ intelligent WiFi access points (APs), this new cloud-based system is said to provide engineering and field support teams with insights into key WiFi performance data across both managed and unmanaged devices, such as laptops, tablets, smartphones, smart home devices and more. Operators will be able to view a visual WiFi map of a subscriber’s home network; examine which devices are connected to which AP; whether those devices connected at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz; check signal strength and speeds between APs; and more.
“For many operators, the top customer care calls are WiFi related. Yet, operators are in the difficult position of having almost no visibility into the true network conditions throughout a subscriber’s home — particularly on unmanaged devices,” the company’s CEO Philippe Alcaras says. “AirTies Remote View is designed to provide new tools for operators to enhance service quality through the use of real-time and historical performance data.”
To support its recently announced efforts to offer new services like 4K TV and colocation solutions, Quebec-based service provider Videotron is deploying Ciena’s converged packet optical solution to upgrade its regional and backbone network. This deployment reportedly will allow Videotron to accommodate several terabits of traffic, meeting the surge of bandwidth required by Internet and video applications. It will also enable flexible, low latency connectivity that ensures a superior end user experience, according to Ciena.
Videotron is deploying packet optical and software solutions from Ciena, including the 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, which supports service delivery at 100 G and beyond. Ciena says that combine with its WaveLogic 3 coherent optical processors, Videotron will be able to provide high-speed, low latency connectivity between its Montreal data center and its existing data center in Quebec City, which will allow its business customers access to an expanded portfolio of services, including data hosting.
Ciena’s integrated OTDR will reportedly provide greater network visibility and control, allowing the operator to locate and address potential trouble spots remotely. Additionally, Ciena’s reports that its Unified Management System will provide multi-layer network monitoring, and enable rapid and efficient service turn-up and troubleshooting.
