Eir revealed more details about its high-speed data deployment plans in rural Ireland in which the company will offer speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps. In the next year, 100,000 homes and businesses across 200 communities in all 26 counties will be able to access the fastest broadband speeds in Ireland, according to the company. Prep work is already happening, clearing the way for spans of new fiber. Last June, the company announced its overall strategy to extend the footprint of high-speed broadband to a further 300,000 homes and businesses to reach a total of 1.9 million premises by the end of 2020.
After more than a year of completing infrastructure improvements, MaxxSouth Broadband is set to unveil enhancements to high-speed Internet and video services to residents in the Mississippi communities of Forest and Morton. The enhanced system will offer customers increased download speeds as well as a fully digital video platform, more than 50 HD channels, 20 recently added channels, free access to VOD and the ability to pause and record live TV using a DVR. “In the not-too-distant future, we will also launch telephony services in these markets as we continue to enhance our products and services even further,” Peter Kahelin, MaxxSouth’s president and CEO, says.
UPC Poland, that country’s largest provider of digital cable TV and broadband services, penned a managed services agreement with Ericsson recently. Ericsson will assume responsibility for field maintenance in the operator’s network and for delivering continuous improvements in network quality and operational efficiency. It also will head up preventive and corrective maintenance activities with a focus on process optimization. The five-year agreement will be effective from April 1, and represents Ericsson’s first cable managed services contract in Poland.
At the NAB Show in April in Las Vegas, Imagine Communications will highlight its ad management, playout, networking and distribution solution portfolios. Featured demonstrations will include the Platinum IP3 and VX routers, Selenio MCP processing products and the Magellan SDN Orchestrator. Imagine reports that these solutions showcase capabilities that align with the Alliance for IP Media Solutions roadmap, including compatibility with SMPTE 2022, AES-67, and VSF TR-04/TR-03.
