Telia Carrier announced the extension of its North American optical network to bring 100 gigabit per second services into its Bay Area metro markets utilizing the Infinera TM-Series. Telia Carrier and Infinera also announced a second Infinera DTN-X based low latency “Pacific Coast Highway” route between the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles.
Telia Carrier says that the enhanced connectivity between the two major West Coast media, entertainment and Internet hubs also clears an additional path for Asia-Pac traffic entering and leaving the U.S. via key submarine cable landing stations in Los Angeles.
Telia Carrier was reportedly the first network operator in North America to deploy the Infinera DTN-X Family with Instant Bandwidth and the first network operator to test a terabit super-channel on a live network. It also is the first announced provider to extend a nationwide DTN-X network by deploying Infinera’s TM-Series for Metro 100 G at scale.
Technicolor is supporting Comcast’s recently announced launch of advanced consumer trial of DOCSIS 3.1-powered Gigabit Internet service in Atlanta, with plans to expand gigabit service to additional markets later this year. Technicolor will provide a DOCSIS 3.1-powered, gigabit modem that Comcast will use in some of its early deployments.
Teleste is unveiling two new 1.2 GHz fiber-optic amplifiers. The AC3010 and AC3210, reportedly combine 1.2 GHz downstream frequency with advanced intelligent features and automatic adjustments. They are equal in capacity and features but the AC3010 has one active output and the AC3210 has two.
Teleste says the amplifiers offer an extremely wide gain range, better RF performance and increased power efficiency. All adjustments are electrical and they can be controlled via a management interface, which means that plug-in attenuators or equalizers are not needed, the company reports. Teleste also reports that allowing automatic recognition of diplexer filters also reduces annual configuration work.
