Vecima Networks is introducing Entra, its new DOCSIS 3.1 Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) platform, at INTX in Boston, May 16-18. Vecima reports that Entra is a next-generation access solution that consists of virtual controller software and Ethernet-centric remote access nodes supporting all distributed architectures.
“This approach to the network enables operators to offer multi-gigabit data rates over cable to subscribers without the excessive costs of running fiber to the home,” the company says in a statement. “Entra overcomes the challenges of traditional architectures by delivering highly attractive power and cost per bit while maximizing network capacity and minimizing space in already constrained hub sites.”
Coriant announced it is expanding its portfolio of packet transport network (PTN) solutions with the introduction of its 7090-2 CEM packet transport platform. The company says it has a high-capacity and ultra-compact form factor, and 7090-2 CEM reportedly extends provisioning of diverse packet services, including Carrier Ethernet, closer to the customer premises. The new Coriant solution is also said to help network operators lower the cost of service delivery at the network edge while enhancing the end-to-end packet-based transport capabilities of its 7090 portfolio
Holistic Labs unveiled Digital Butler, a connected home support solution that runs as a downloadable app on a phone, tablet or computer and works in conjunction with a knowledge base and insights engine in the cloud. The company says that it offers installers and integrators a comprehensive tool to remotely and securely troubleshoot smart home networks that doesn’t require any extra equipment.
Digital Butler is reportedly adaptive, vendor-neutral and provides for a single-stop support marketplace.
“Supporting connected consumers is increasingly costly given the growing number of devices in broadband households and the growing technical complexity of these households. Parks Associates research shows that the average broadband household now has over eight connected computing and entertainment devices, compared to 4.6 devices in 2010,” Patrice Samuels, research analyst at Parks Associates, says. “More than one-half of consumers now expect support providers to cover multiple device types and brands. Given the growing support demands, support tools that are comprehensive and intelligent, improving in capability and performance with each use, will provide the best ROI for support providers.”
