Netflix released data on Monday from its November 2016 ISP Speed Index, which offers a snapshot into how broadband operators are faring against each other in providing primetime Netflix streaming. The U.S. index has been fairly static for the last few months among larger providers, with Verizon Fios at the top. But in November, Bright House squeaked up in ranking to go into a dead heat with Fios at 3.70 Mbps. In October, Bright House reportedly ranked at 3.66 Mbps. Fios was at 3.69 Mbps.
CenturyLink, which has been called out by Netflix in the past for bringing up the rear among major providers in the United States, got a bit of a nod from the streaming service in November for its average monthly speed climbing to 2.55 Mbps, up from 2.11 Mbps in October.
Netflix points out that the index is a measure of primetime Netflix performance on a particular ISP, and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times, and fewer interruptions, according to the company.
