By Mike Robuck

Lexcom, a communications provider based in Lexington, N.C., will use the Trident platform to provide RF and IP video, voice and data services to homes and businesses throughout its footprint. Lexcom is deploying the Trident7 as an “overlay” network to an existing telephony and HFC network serving parts of the city and Davidson County. Lexcom started the project in Q2 2007, with services ramping up in Q4 2007.
“The economics of the Trident7 system allows us to go all the way to the home with fiber, and Wave7’s integrated RF return technology allows us to support all of our existing set-top boxes and any other SCTE- and DOCSIS-compatible set-top boxes,” said Michael Smith, engineering manager at Lexcom. “We need a universal FTTH solution that will enable us to have a choice in the most cost-effective network configuration, depending on various factors, be it EPON, GPON or point-to-point.”
