• Cable Connections registration open
By Brian Santo

Registration for Cable Connection – Fall is open at the event’s Web site.

Cable Connection – Fall is the combination of the SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo, the CTAM Summit, NAMIC’s annual convention, the Walter Kaitz Foundation’s annual dinner, the Cable Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the ACC Forum and WICT’s Tech It Out Breakfast. This year’s events will be conducted in Denver Oct. 25-30.

The event organizers are offering rebates for registration passes; amounts vary depending on the number of events being attended.

“We have also worked to simplify and streamline the registration process and provide helpful discounts,” said Barbara York, senior vice president of industry affairs for the NCTA. “Now’s the time to review the Cable Connection schedule and to register to have some great experiences in Denver in October.”

• JDSU upgrades SmartClass TPS
By Traci Patterson

JDSU has expanded the functionality of its SmartClass Triple-Play Services (TPS) test instrument, an all-in-one handheld tool for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of IP video, VoIP, IP data, ADSL 1/2/2+ and copper services.

The SmartClass TPS performs complex tests, is easy-to-use, meets the challenges associated with mass broadband deployments and can scale to future requirements as technology evolves.

New functions include an integrated Web browser for ease-of-use and verification of on-site subscriber Web site access; copper tests that are field-tested and proven, including CableCheck and balance tests that provide one-button, pass/fail copper verification; a Broadcast Auto feature that simplifies IPTV testing and automatically detects IP stream formats; and a Packet Capture feature that enables technicians to capture data for offline analysis in the back office.

Advanced Media Technologies (AMT) has moved to a new 50,000-square-foot facility in order to accommodate increasing customer demand from its broadband service provider clientele, according to the company.

“Our customers have come to depend on AMT for the shortest lead times and expert technical response on a variety of brand names,” says Ken Mosca, AMT’s President. “This new state-of-the-art distribution facility will help ensure that our customers are provided the high level of service and technical expertise they have come to expect from AMT in an increasingly technical and complex marketplace.”
