• HomePNA picks up another user

Connexion Technologies has joined the HomePNA Alliance, an association of service providers and equipment manufacturers that supports the use of HomePNA home networking technology.
Connexion provides communications services to managed communities, other managed living facilities and hospitality properties. Connexion is relying on a latter version of HomePNA that operates on coaxial cable.
“HomePNA technology allows us to support high levels of service that would normally not be possible in homes with existing coaxial cable networks,” said Dan Waugh, vice president of system integration at Connexion. “Thanks to these devices, we can offer all the benefits of a fiber-optic network without replacing existing wiring.”

The IEEE is preparing to finalize the standards for the next generation of WiMAX that will take the wireless technology to speeds in excess of 100 Mbps (mobile) to 1 Gbps (fixed).
The one WiMAX operator that has national aspirations in the U.S., Clearwire, is reported to be in no rush to upgrade to the technology, according to sources quoted by DigiTimes.
• Apple plans to show ‘latest creation’ next week

NEW YORK (AP) – Apple Inc. is inviting reporters to an event next week to see what it calls “our latest creation.” The company e-mail Monday offered no specifics about what it would display at the invitation-only Jan. 27 event in San Francisco.
But it comes amid speculation that Apple is close to unveiling a tablet-style touchscreen computer that is bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a standard laptop. Tablets are one-piece computers with big screens and no keyboards. Such devices have been around since the early 1990s but haven’t seen much success in the mainstream.
An Apple spokesman declined to provide more details on its plans Monday afternoon.
