* Corning Cable’s CEO retiring this spring

Corning Cable Systems’ president and CEO, Larry Aiello Jr., will retire this spring, effective April 1. His successor will be Clark Kinlin, currently the COO of Corning Cable.

Aiello has served as the president and CEO since April 2002. Under his leadership, Corning Cable secured a position in the telecom industry’s fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) market.

Aiello joined Corning in 1973, as part of Corning’s internal audit department. He has held a variety of manufacturing, operational and financial leadership roles, and he also led the company’s international operations, the company said.

* DirecTV launches broadcast channels in Montana

DirecTV has launched local broadcast network programming in Butte and Bozeman, Mont. The satellite provider now offers standard-definition (SD) local channels in 147 markets, representing approximately 94 percent of TV households in the U.S.

* 8×8 increases revenues in Q3 2008

VoIP specialist 8×8 announced Q3 2008 revenue of $15.8 million, up sequentially from $14.8 million in Q2, and also up from the $13.3 million the company tallied in the like quarter a year ago.

Net income for the quarter was $1.4 million, the second-highest quarterly earnings in the company’s history. That compares with a net loss of $2.6 million in the last quarter and a $2.8 million loss a year ago.

The company said it is beginning to prosper with its hosted business VoIP service.
