* DISH hits sub milestone
EchoStar Communications said it surpassed the 12 million subscriber mark in late December, noting that it has added more than 6.74 million net new subs in the last five years.
EchoStar hit the 1 million sub mark back in December 1997, and reached 11 million about a year ago.
* Chunghwa picks Terayon
Chunghwa Telecom of Taiwan said it will use the Terayon Communication Systems Inc. DM 6400 Network CherryPicker to support its “multimedia-on-demand” platform.
Chunghwa launched the IP-based video service in Taipei and North Taiwan last March, and is using the DM 6400 to aggregate and distribute 18 MPEG-2 video streams via Gigabit Ethernet to Taichung and Kaohsiung. The CherryPicker also enables the operator to rate shape multiple standard programs and video-on-demand feeds, Terayon said.
At the end of 2005, the service was available to about 200,000 customers.
