• Moto, Brocade join to target enterprise mobility
By Brian Santo
Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Brocade said they have entered into a strategic partnership to collaborate on wireless LAN (WLAN), voice over WLAN, mobile unified communications and fixed/mobile convergence (FMC), cloud computing and wireless broadband technologies.
The two intend to integrate Motorola’s core WLAN technologies and Brocade’s high-performance wired networking technologies. Meanwhile, Brocade will OEM some Motorola wireless products, private-labeling some.
The timing is somewhat interesting, in that Brocade is rumored to be shopping itself. Speculation about who might buy the company centered on HP and Oracle, though the latter has expressed disinterest.
“Working together, Brocade and Motorola can develop and deliver industry-leading integrated wired and wireless solutions,” said Michael Klayko, CEO of Brocade. “This clearly is an area of increasing importance to our customers as businesses continue to upgrade their network infrastructures to meet the demands of a mobile workforce who require ubiquitous access to any application, from anywhere, at any time.”
• PCT bursts out with mini-fiber node
By CED staff
PCT International has developed a mini-fiber node that combines the advantages of an internal coupler and the company’s Burst Mode technology.
The new PCT-BPFN products split wavelengths internally to reduce the amount of fiber needed in RF over glass and FTTx deployments. At the same time, they continue to provide low-noise, highly responsive performance, the company said.
PCT will demo the new mini-node as part of its HFC and optical fiber solutions at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo (booth #13089), set for Oct. 28-30 in Denver.
