* RGB elects new member to board of directors
RGB Networks announced the addition of Jim Dolce, most recently executive vice president of worldwide field operations at Juniper Networks, to its board of directors. Dolce joined Juniper Networks in July 2002 through the acquisition of Unisphere Networks, where as CEO he guided the growth and eventual sale of the company. While at Juniper, he was responsible for the company’s global marketing, customer service, sales and partner management.
* Akimbo owners get major studio movies through Movielink
Akimbo said Movielink has programmed its VOD service specifically for the Akimbo Player. That means owners of the Akimbo Player will be able to download movies, on a VOD basis, from several major studios that make films available through MovieLink, including Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Studios, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Prices will range from $0.99 to $4.99. The RCA Akimbo Player allows consumers to download video through a broadband connection to watch later on TV.
* Navini airs pre-mobile WiMAX in Puerto Rico
Islanet, a provider of commercial wireless Internet and data services in Puerto Rico, launched Volare, a pre-mobile 802.16e WiMAX residential service on its countrywide network infrastructure and licensed 2.5 GHz EBS channels.
The service was deployed using the Ripwave MX system from Navini Networks. Service plans start at $19.95 per month.
* Bresnan enters business VoIP market with MetaSwitch
Bresnan Communications is deploying MetaSwitch’s softswitch, media gateway and application server products for business telephone services. Bresnan plans to offer carrier-class digital telephone services to business customers in early 2007. MetaSwitch’s technology will allow Bresnan to provide a broad range of services, including Centrex, digital PBX trunks, and traditional telephone services to small and mid-sized business customers on Bresnan’s HFC network.
