* Harmonic to demo IPTV headend
Harmonic Inc. said it will demonstrate its broadcast and on-demand IP-based video solutions at the Telco TV show in Dallas next week.
The company will have on hand an all-IP remote headend to distribute aggregated content acquired via satellite; the demo includes the latest generation DiviCom Electra MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoders and the ProStream 1000 platform with ProCipher bulk descrambling capabilities. Harmonic will also showcase the Entone on-demand software for content ingest, real-time distributed intelligent asset management and high-performance video streaming.
* Pandora travels Level 3
Pandora will tap high-speed ports from Level 3 Communications to support the company’s Internet-based radio service.
Under the deal, Pandora’s “music discovery service” will gain access to 10 GigE ports from Level 3, to help the company stay in front of the capacity needs of a growing base of listeners and listening hours. Pandora’s music collection covers several genres, including pop, rock, jazz, electronica, hip hop, country, blues and R&B.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
