* Oakes joins SCTE as finance VP
Cathy Oakes has been named VP, finance and accounting for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE).
She joins the Society from Stockton Bates, a Philadelphia-based public accounting firm, where she served as tax director. Before that, she was with The Harron Companies, a privately-held entity with interests in cable, broadcast, television, radio and a number of entertainment and new technology ventures.
Oakes fills a role that had been occupied by Patricia Zelenka, who passed away suddenly May 29.
* Shaw dials up Saskatoon
Shaw Communications has launched IP telephony services in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
“With more than 212,000 customers in Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba, more Canadians are choosing Shaw Digital Phone,” said Shaw President Peter Bissonnette, in a statement.
Shaw is offering phone service there for an introductory rate of $29.95 per month, and as low as $40 per month after that period ends.
