R Cable y Telecomunicaciones, a cable operator in Spain’s Galicia region, is delivering a range of services to business customers using a VoIP platform from Nortel.

The Nortel-provided system includes PacketCable voice and SIP services that can be applied to both residential and business markets.

The “IMS-ready” platform is based on the widely-deployed Nortel Communication Server.

* Gemstar-TV Guide names repurposing honcho
Gemstar-TV Guide International has promoted Ian Birch to executive vice president and chief content officer, a new position at the company.

Birch will retain his duties as editor-in-chief of TV Guide magazine. The new job will involve working with the editorial and programming teams at each of the company’s businesses to develop cross-platform content initiatives to create new advertising opportunities.
