* Level 3 levels up with MTS Allstream
Level 3 Communications has inked a three-year deal to provide voice services to MTS Allstream, a communications provider based in Canada.

Under the extended deal, Level 3 will provide expanded U.S. voice termination services to Allstream. Level 3 already provides MTS with data service.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

* Forsee named as chairman of Sprint Nextel
Sprint Nextel Corp.’s board of directors today named Gary D. Forsee as Chairman. Forsee replaces Tim Donahue, who retires as executive chairman at the end of this month. Forsee has served as president and chief executive officer of Sprint Nextel since the company’s merger in August 2005, and before that served as CEO and chairman of Sprint. In addition, Sprint Nextel announced the appointment of Sprint Nextel board director Robert R. Bennett to chair the finance committee and serve on the audit committee.

* BandTel, Cantata team to enable SIP-based VoIP
BandTel and Cantata Technology have entered into a strategic partnership to co-market their combination of VoIP services and technology to high-volume service providers, such as ISPs and long distance and domestic carriers. BandTel operates a fail-safe ITSP network; Cantata contributes its Integrated Media and Signaling Gateway 1010. Together, the two say they can help carriers and ISPs to migrate to a SIP-based IP telephony service.
